This December, I wrote a little Christmas diddy asking an essential Christmas question: why does this happiness feel somewhat sad?
Then, I had the pleasure of an impromptu recording session with my friend, the excellent jazz pianist, Patrick Adkins. I hope you enjoy the result!
lyrics
Around now, in December, you can feel it in the air
There’s a joyful spirit among people everywhere
There’s stars on top of evergreens and snow falling down from the sky
So why does Christmas make me cry?
All the children are wishing to hear Santa’s sleigh bells ring
And they’re hanging their stockings to see what he will bring
And all the shops are filled with folks trying to find the best presents to buy
So why does Christmas make me cry?
Every year I remember all the Christmases past
And I’m filled with that feeling of wishing they would last
The smell of pine and peppermint and that sweet familiar song
Remind me what it feels like to be loved, to belong
So I’m ready, December, for your sleigh bells and your snow
For your laughing lovers beneath the mistletoe
Cause they make me smile, and know it’s strange, but I still cannot say why
Christmas makes me cry
